A concentrated solvent extract of Berberis aristata (Indian barberry, also called tree turmeric), produced from the root and stem bark. It is standardized by HPLC to the plant's principal isoquinoline alkaloid, berberine, at a 10% marker level, with grades also supplied at 5% and 8%. Unlike the isolated salt grades in this family (Berberine HCl and Berberine Sulfate), it is a whole botanical extract that retains the native extract matrix rather than a single purified compound, and unlike the root powder it is chemically concentrated to a defined berberine assay. It is supplied as a free-flowing powder and is manufactured into capsule, tablet and bulk powder formats.
