Niacin (Vitamin B3)

Niacin (Nicotinic Acid)

Pyridine-3-carboxylic acid

Nicotinic acid is the free-acid form of vitamin B3, chemically pyridine-3-carboxylic acid (CAS 59-67-6, C6H5NO2, molecular weight 123.11). It is produced by chemical synthesis and supplied to USP/FCC grade at an assay of not less than 99.0% by titration or HPLC. As the unmodified pyridine carboxylic acid it is the smallest member of the family alongside the amide, carrying none of the ester, riboside or nucleotide groups that dilute the niacin moiety in the larger forms; it is a moderately water-soluble crystalline solid whose solutions are mildly acidic. We supply it as a dry powder and manufacture it into capsules, tablets and powders.
