L'orthophosphate ferrique est le sel de fer trivalent de l'acide orthophosphorique (CAS 10045-86-0; FePO4, MW 150.82), apportant environ 37% de fer élémentaire sur base anhydre et environ 28 à 30% sous forme de dihydrate. En tant que sel ferrique insoluble dans l'eau, il est apprécié pour sa stabilité de couleur dans les aliments enrichis, contrairement aux sels ferreux solubles et plus réactifs, et il apporte du phosphore en plus du fer. C'est une poudre blanc cassé à beige proposée anhydre ou sous forme de dihydrate, transformée en poudres, comprimés et gélules.
