Sodium Citrate

Trisodium citrate dihydrate

Sodium citrate is the trisodium salt of citric acid, supplied as the dihydrate (CAS 6132-04-3; C6H5Na3O7·2H2O, MW 294.10) and made from fermentation-derived citric acid neutralised with a sodium base. It carries about 23% elemental sodium as the dihydrate, around 27% anhydrous, and is a mildly alkaline buffering salt, in contrast to the acidic monosodium phosphate and the near-neutral chloride. It is highly water-soluble and recognised as food additive E331(iii). We manufacture it as a white crystalline powder for powders, tablets and liquids.
