Creatine anhydrous is the water-free base form of creatine, 2-[carbamimidoyl(methyl)amino]acetic acid (CAS 57-00-1, C4H9N3O2, MW 131.13). Because the water of crystallization present in the monohydrate has been removed, it carries no crystal water and assays at approximately 100% creatine by mass, the highest creatine load of the family and above the ~87.9% of the monohydrate and the lower content of the salt forms. It is manufactured synthetically and supplied as a white crystalline powder. It is manufactured in powder and capsule formats.
