Kelp Iodine

Kelp (seaweed) organically bound iodine

Kelp iodine is organically bound iodine sourced from dried brown seaweed such as Ascophyllum nodosum and Laminaria species, rather than a defined synthetic or mineral salt, so no single CAS number or molecular formula applies. The harvested seaweed is dried and milled, and because its native iodine concentration is variable the ingredient is standardized to a declared iodine content per serving. In contrast to the discrete inorganic salts and elemental iodine elsewhere in the family, its iodine is held within a whole-food botanical matrix at a comparatively low and variable elemental load. This seaweed-derived marine ingredient is supplied as a powder for capsules, tablets and powder blends.
