Sodium Iodide

Sodium iodide

Sodium iodide is the inorganic sodium salt of hydroiodic acid (NaI, CAS 7681-82-5), supplying iodine in the reduced iodide (I-) state like potassium iodide but with a lighter sodium cation. It is manufactured by neutralizing hydroiodic acid or iodine with sodium hydroxide or carbonate and isolated as a white, markedly deliquescent crystalline solid that is very freely soluble in water. Because sodium is lighter than potassium, it carries the highest elemental iodine load of the family's salts at roughly 85% by weight, above potassium iodide (~76%) and well above the oxidized iodates. Its deliquescence makes it well suited to liquid preparations. We manufacture it as capsules, tablets, powders and liquids.
