Folic acid is the fully oxidized, synthetic monoglutamate form of vitamin B9, chemically pteroyl-L-glutamic acid (CAS 59-30-3; C19H19N7O6; MW 441.40). It is manufactured by chemical synthesis and supplied as a crystalline powder to USP/EP grade at an assay of not less than 97%. Unlike the family's tetrahydrofolate members, it carries a fully oxidized pteridine ring and is presented as the free glutamic acid rather than a metal or amine salt, giving it the lowest molecular weight of the folate forms we handle. It functions as the reference monoglutamate against which the reduced folates in this family are compared. We manufacture it in capsules, tablets, softgels, powders, gummies and liquids.
