Retinaldehyde, also called retinal (CAS 116-31-4), is the aldehyde form of vitamin A, molecular formula C20H28O. It sits one oxidation step above the retinol alcohol and, unlike the shelf-stable retinyl esters, is a reactive carbonyl compound rather than an ester or alcohol. At 284.44 g/mol it is the lowest-molecular-weight member of the vitamin A family, supplied as an HPLC-assayed crystalline or oil ingredient grade intended chiefly for topical formulations. We manufacture it into liquids and powders.
