Ascorbic Acid

L-ascorbic acid

Ascorbic Acid is the parent free-acid form of vitamin C, L-ascorbic acid (CAS 50-81-7, C6H8O6, MW 176.12), and the reference compound from which the ascorbate salts and esters in this family are derived. It is manufactured by synthesis to USP/Ph.Eur./FCC grade at typically 99% or higher assay, yielding an acidic, freely water-soluble crystalline powder. Carrying no counter-ion, it delivers the highest ascorbic acid content per gram of the family at a low intrinsic pH, unlike the buffered mineral ascorbates; and it dissolves directly in water, unlike the fat-soluble ascorbyl palmitate ester. We manufacture it in capsule, tablet, powder and liquid formats.
