Magnesium sulfate is the sulfate salt of magnesium (CAS 7487-88-9; MgSO4, MW 120.37), best known in its heptahydrate form as Epsom salt. It is a highly water-soluble inorganic salt carrying roughly 20% elemental magnesium on an anhydrous basis, between the chloride and the concentrated oxide and carbonate grades. Sourced from mineral magnesium, it is supplied as colourless to white crystals or powder. Manufactured formats are powders, liquids and tablets.
