Propionyl-L-Carnitine Hydrochloride

[(2R)-3-carboxy-2-propanoyloxypropyl]-trimethylazanium chloride

Propionyl-L-carnitine hydrochloride (CAS 119793-66-7) is the hydrochloride salt of the O-propionyl ester of L-carnitine, formula C10H20ClNO4 and molecular weight 253.72. It is made synthetically by propionylation of L-carnitine followed by conversion to the hydrochloride salt. It carries a propionyl acyl group in place of the acetyl group of acetyl-L-carnitine, and is supplied as a hydrochloride salt rather than as an inner-salt ester or a carboxylic-acid salt such as the tartrate or fumarate. The material is a crystalline powder that we manufacture into capsules, tablets and powders.
