L-Arginine base is the free-base form of the amino acid L-arginine (CAS 74-79-3), molecular formula C6H14N4O2, molecular weight 174.20. It is produced by microbial fermentation and isolated as a crystalline powder standardized to roughly 98-99% assay. Because it carries no counter-ion, it delivers the highest arginine content of the family on a per-gram basis and forms alkaline solutions in water, in contrast to the hydrochloride and organic-acid salts that dilute the arginine fraction with a counter-ion.
