Creatine monohydrate is the crystalline monohydrate of creatine, 2-[carbamimidoyl(methyl)amino]acetic acid (CAS 6020-87-7), carrying one water of crystallization (C4H11N3O3, MW 149.15). It is produced synthetically and is the most widely traded creatine raw material. The single water of crystallization gives a creatine content of approximately 87.9% by mass, higher than the salt forms such as the hydrochloride (~78%) but below the water-free anhydrous base (~100%). It is supplied as a white crystalline powder and is manufactured in powder, capsule, tablet and gummy formats.
