Birch Xylitol (crystalline)

Xylitol ((2R,4S)-pentane-1,2,3,4,5-pentol)

Birch Xylitol is the five-carbon sugar alcohol (pentitol) xylitol, (2R,4S)-pentane-1,2,3,4,5-pentol, CAS 87-99-0, EC 201-788-0, molecular formula C5H12O5 (MW 152.15), designated E967/INS 967. It is produced by catalytic hydrogenation of xylose recovered from the hemicellulose (xylan) fraction of birch and other hardwoods, then purified and crystallised to a USP/FCC/EP grade of at least 99% xylitol. Chemically it is identical to our corn-sourced xylitol; the two grades differ only in botanical feedstock, this one being hardwood-derived and carrying a non-GMO declaration. It is supplied as a free-flowing white crystalline solid, coarser in particle size than our micronized powder and non-agglomerated, unlike the spray-granulated directly compressible grade. We manufacture it into powders, tablets, capsules and gummies.
