Vitamin A Palmitate

Retinyl palmitate (all-trans-retinol hexadecanoate)

Retinyl palmitate (CAS 79-81-2) is the palmitic-acid ester of all-trans retinol, molecular formula C36H60O2. It is manufactured synthetically by esterifying retinol with palmitic acid, then standardised in International Units or micrograms RAE. Among the family's preformed vitamin A forms it carries the longest acyl chain, giving it the highest molecular weight (524.86) and therefore the lowest retinol load per unit mass of the retinyl esters, while the ester bond makes it more oxidation-stable than free retinol. It is supplied either as an oil dilution or as a dry, cold-water-dispersible beadlet. We manufacture it into softgels, capsules, tablets, powders and liquids.
