Molybdenum citrate is an organic complex of molybdenum with citric acid, sold as a finished-supplement molybdenum source; it has no assigned CAS number, no single defined molecular formula and no standardised stoichiometry, so its molybdenum loading varies from supplier to supplier. It is produced by complexing molybdenum with citric acid rather than by crystallising a defined salt, which distinguishes it from the fixed-composition sodium and ammonium molybdate grades and from the glycine amino-acid chelate. Because its elemental molybdenum content is variable and typically low, this powdered complex is used almost exclusively in low-microgram products, and unlike the other forms in the family we manufacture it only in the capsule format.
