Berberine Phytosome is a phospholipid complex of berberine derived from Berberis aristata, in which the alkaloid is bound to sunflower-derived phospholipids to form a phytosome matrix (branded Berbevis by Indena). It is standardized to approximately 28% berberine within the complex, so unlike the near-pure Berberine HCl and Berberine Sulfate salts it is a lower-assay complexed delivery form rather than an isolated salt, and unlike the standardized root extract it is built on a phospholipid carrier rather than being a plain botanical concentrate. This phospholipid complexation sets it apart technically from every other grade in the family. It is supplied as a powder and is manufactured into capsule and tablet formats.
