Garlic (Allium sativum)

Garlic Extract (Bulb), 1% Allicin

Allium sativum (bulb) extract

This is a concentrated bulb extract of garlic (Allium sativum) standardized to allicin, the sulfur-based marker most commonly specified for garlic. It is set to 1% allicin, with grades across the family commonly supplied over a 1%-5% allicin range. Unlike the alliin-standardized grade, which is assayed to the shelf-stable precursor, this form is quantified on allicin itself, and unlike the aged-garlic grade, which reports S-allyl cysteine with low to no allicin, it is defined by allicin content. It differs from the whole bulb powder in being a marker-standardized concentrate rather than food-grade milled material, and from garlic oil in being a dry water and solvent extract rather than a distilled oil. It is a dry powdered extract manufactured in capsules, tablets, and powder.
