Polydatin (trans-Piceid)

trans-resveratrol-3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (trans-piceid)

Polydatin, also called trans-piceid, is the 3-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside of trans-resveratrol (CAS 27208-80-6; C20H22O8, MW 390.4), a naturally occurring stilbenoid glycoside. It is extracted from the root of Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum) and standardized by HPLC to 95-98% trans-polydatin. In technical terms it differs from every free-resveratrol grade in the family by carrying a covalently bound glucose unit at the 3-position, which raises its molecular weight from 228.24 to 390.4 and makes it a glucoside rather than a free aglycone; unlike pterostilbene, its stilbene hydroxyls are glycosylated rather than methylated. It is supplied as a white to off-white crystalline powder. We manufacture it in capsules, tablets and powder blends.
