DL-Theanine

N-ethyl-DL-glutamine (2-amino-5-(ethylamino)-5-oxopentanoic acid)

DL-Theanine is the racemic form of theanine, N-ethyl-DL-glutamine (CAS 34271-54-0), containing both the D- and L-isomers in an approximately equal mixture; it shares the molecular formula C7H14N2O3 and the molecular weight of 174.20 with the single-isomer grades but carries its own CAS number. It is chemically synthesized rather than produced by fermentation or enzymatic bioconversion, which makes it a lower-cost synthetic alternative to the single L-isomer. Physically it is supplied as a crystalline powder, and unlike the enzymatic Suntheanine grade and the fermentation-derived generic L-theanine, both of which are the pure L-form, this material is a 50/50 D/L racemate. We manufacture it in powder and capsule formats.
