Copper Gluconate

Copper(II) D-gluconate

Copper gluconate is the copper(II) salt of gluconic acid, chemically copper(II) D-gluconate (CAS 527-09-3, formula C12H22CuO14, molecular weight 453.84). It is manufactured synthetically by neutralizing gluconic acid with a copper(II) source to a USP and food-grade salt. Because the large gluconate anion carries only a single copper ion, its elemental copper content is the lowest of the family at about 14%, well below the roughly 40% of copper sulfate and copper citrate and the roughly 80% of copper oxide, and it is an organic-acid salt rather than a chelate like copper bisglycinate. It is supplied as a powder and manufactured into capsules, tablets, powders and gummies.
