Alpha-Tocotrienol

d-alpha-tocotrienol / (R)-alpha-tocotrienol

d-alpha-tocotrienol (CAS 1721-51-3) is the alpha homolog of the tocotrienol series, distinguished from alpha-tocopherol by an unsaturated isoprenoid side chain carrying three double bonds in place of the saturated phytyl tail. That unsaturation lowers its molecular weight to 424.7 g/mol (C29H44O2) relative to the corresponding tocopherol. It is derived from palm or rice-bran oil, isolated as a component of the tocotrienol complex and assayed by HPLC. As a free-phenol, fat-soluble oil it is supplied for softgels, capsules and liquids.
