Potassium Gluconate

Potassium D-gluconate

Potassium gluconate is the monopotassium salt of gluconic acid (C6H11KO7, CAS 299-27-4, food-additive E577), made by neutralising fermentation-derived gluconic acid with a potassium base. It carries the lowest elemental potassium of the family at about 17%, well below the inorganic chloride (~52%), because the large organic gluconate ligand makes up most of the molecular weight. Along with the citrate it is one of the two organic-acid salts most often used to build 99 mg potassium tablets, and unlike the alkaline citrate or bicarbonate it is closer to neutral in reaction. We manufacture it as a crystalline powder for tablets, capsules and powder blends.
