Potassium Bicarbonate

Potassium hydrogen carbonate

Potassium bicarbonate is the alkaline monopotassium salt of carbonic acid (potassium hydrogen carbonate, CHKO3, CAS 298-14-6), produced synthetically by carbonating a potassium base. It provides roughly 39% elemental potassium and, on contact with acid, releases carbon dioxide, which is why it is specified as the gas-generating component of effervescent systems rather than as a plain filler salt like the chloride. Compared with the tripotassium citrate it is a single-potassium carbonate salt, and unlike the phosphate forms it contributes no phosphorus. We supply it as a crystalline powder for effervescent tablets and powders.
