Ascorbyl Palmitate is a fat-soluble ester of vitamin C, L-ascorbic acid 6-palmitate (CAS 137-66-6, C22H38O7, MW 414.5), formed synthetically by esterifying ascorbic acid with palmitic acid and standardized to USP/FCC grade (food additive E304). This esterification makes it lipophilic and oil-dispersible rather than water-soluble, the defining physical distinction from the free acid and the mineral ascorbate salts of this family. Its molecular weight reflects the attached palmitate chain, so its ascorbic acid fraction per gram is lower than that of the pure acid. It is an off-white powder that we manufacture into softgel, capsule and powder formats.
