Chromium Picolinate

Chromium picolinate is the trivalent chromium(III) complex of picolinic acid, in which three picolinate ligands coordinate a single chromium ion (CAS 14639-25-9, formula C18H12CrN3O6, molecular weight 418.30). It is produced synthetically by reacting a chromium(III) source with picolinic acid, yielding a defined coordination complex typically assayed at 98% or higher purity and carrying roughly 12% elemental chromium by weight. As an organic complex it is distinct from the inorganic chromium chloride salt and from the yeast-bound biomass, and it shares its empirical formula and molecular weight with chromium polynicotinate, differing only in that the ligand is picolinic acid rather than the positional-isomer nicotinic acid. We supply it as a fine crystalline powder and manufacture it in capsule, tablet, powder, gummy and liquid formats. It is the most widely specified organic chromium form used in supplement blends.
