Heme Iron Polypeptide ist ein enzymatisches Hydrolysat von tierischem Hämoglobin (Rind oder Schwein), in dem das Eisen innerhalb des Porphyrin-Häm-Moleküls gebunden bleibt, statt als freies Salz oder Chelat vorzuliegen. Es wird durch enzymatischen Abbau von Hämoglobin zu einer standardisierten peptidgebundenen Häm-Fraktion hergestellt und anschließend auf seinen Häm-Eisen-Gehalt standardisiert, der mit etwa 1-2% bezogen auf das Gewicht niedrig ist. Als Inhaltsstoff tierischen Ursprungs ist es die einzige nicht vegane Form der Familie; es ist glutenfrei, aber nicht für vegane Produkte geeignet.
