Le succinate ferreux est le sel de fer divalent de l'acide succinique (CAS 10030-90-7; C4H4FeO4, MW 171.92), apportant environ 32% de fer élémentaire, une teneur comparable à celle du fumarate ferreux et supérieure aux qualités gluconate et lactate. En tant que sel ferreux d'acide organique, il est modérément soluble et fourni selon des spécifications pharmaceutiques. C'est une poudre brun-rouge à brun-gris transformée en comprimés et gélules.
